You’re Being Called To Something Big

“God’s up to something. He’s up to something big.”

The other day I was snuggled up on my couch, in the rare event I allowed myself the break I needed to watch a new musical I’d been eyeing on Netflix. Near the end of the movie “A Week Away,” a camp leader made a comment to a young boy with a troubled past that had me running for something to write it down.

I believe we’re all made for something BIG, that God created each one of us with a unique set of talents and experiences that are a recipe for something incredible. There are so many reasons we stay stuck in a belief that we’re meant to live our normal lives, being responsible people who never step outside our comfort zone. But hear me when I say this my friend. YOU ARE MADE FOR SOMETHING BIGGER. You have a purpose, your unique way to serve God and love others, and I know this because it took me more than a decade to get to you.

It was so many years ago, I felt a nudge on my heart. A feeling stirred within me that refused to be ignored. A discontent, calling me to do “something bigger, something different” with my life. At the time I was living a nightmare as I watched my mom slowly fade away under the weight of ALS, and I didn’t know what all this pain and grief was for or how I would figure it out. But no matter how much I tried to ignore the thought that my pain and I, were made for something bigger, it refused to go away.

So I searched. I devoured every self-help book and website I could find. I prayed and scrutinized thousands of Bible verses. I explained my situation to trusted friends, even some who looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. I yelled and cried to God for an answer, pleading He might finally explain the calling for this something bigger I was supposed to be doing with my life. But nothing I tried (including a brief period when I thought I might be the next big music or movie star) seemed to fill the space my calling had opened. Sound familiar to anyone?

Your pain has purpose.

In my heartbreak that bordered on depression, I picked up a pen and scrawled my feelings onto the white-lined pages of countless journals. Through watching my mom’s beautiful life fade away, two pregnancies, a new career, and nearly losing a child—I wrote. Countless times I vowed to God I would give up. I would stop searching and never again look back to the answer of “something bigger.”

And then, one night as I flipped through the pages of my tattered journals, the answer came. As words and phrases sprung from the pages, I realized what God was up to.

My heartbreak and pain were bringing me here, to my calling - TO ENCOURAGE YOU TO SEE YOU’RE MEANT FOR SOMETHING BIGGER.

It didn’t make sense. My training was in medicine, not writing, social work, sociology, or spiritual direction. But that’s the beautiful and magical thing about God, friend. He doesn’t train us in school. He trains us through our UNIQUE LIFE EXPERIENCE. Your struggle, like mine, is intentional, “not to harm you, but to give me a good life, with a future.” Jeremiah 29: 11.

In the same way, He was preparing me to use the gifts he’d blessed me with - an ability to write well, to show empathy, to listen, to explain something difficult in a way others can understand, and to encourage others to believe in themselves - to guide me into a calling that only I could fill, He is doing the same for you.

Step into your calling

I’VE COME TO LEARN, IF GOD WANTS YOU TO DO SOMETHING, IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW MUCH YOU TRY TO PUSH OR REASON IT AWAY, YOU WILL BE MISERABLE INSIDE UNTIL YOU FINALLY GIVE IN.

If there is something God is calling you to do, don’t try to go around the mountain. Rather, gear up and take the first step. Any dream, calling, or obstacle He puts in your way is only there to make you stronger. It’s all there to bring you one step closer to who you are meant to be. You don’t need any training or guidance the Teacher can’t provide. He can bring anyone and anything to you.

YOU JUST HAVE TO TAKE THE FIRST STEP.

I’m living proof. I know my calling. I’m meant to share my story, a decade-long journey to this moment. RIGHT HERE. RIGHT NOW. With you reading these words.

This is the journey of THE LIVE JOY LIFE. A roadmap for YOU to believe in yourself again - to find your way from PAIN to PURPOSE to JOY. This roadmap was created from the worn pages of my journey over the last decade as I listened to God and followed a CALLING. Thank you, my friend, for being a part of His plan. I cherish you. My heart thanks you.

I know it can be hard. I know what you’re going through seems like it will never end, that you’ll never catch a break from being everything to everyone. I recognize it’s hard to believe there could be SOMETHING big inside of you, but it’s my purpose, my calling to help you believe it. And I won’t stop until you do.

Together we can do this. Together we can bring ourselves to believe we are meant for a greater purpose and live THE LIVE JOY LIFE.

If you are ready to join the family, you can get started here! I’ll send you my LIVE JOY LIFE Bible Verse guide as your first freebie. But most importantly, I’ll be with you as you begin to believe in yourself again!
